We congratulate the Yale Bulldogs. Yale’s unlikely tournament run was one for the ages. How could the No. 15 seed, the last team to sneak into the tournament, do so much damage? This was a Yale team that entered the tournament just six games over .500, having barely outscored its opponents over the course of the season.

Senate Republicans backed by a small band of rural-state Democrats scuttled the most far-reaching gun control legislation in two decades Wednesday, rejecting tighter background checks for buyers and a ban on assault weapons as they spurned pleas from families of victims of last winter's school massacre in Newtown, Conn.

Letter to the editor: Anti-abortion leaders should lead by example with funds
Creative minds in the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office shouldn’t have a problem coming up with funds for litigation of anti-reproductive justice legislation. Liberty Counsel has already offered legal help to defend the laws.

Baseball and its curses
The goat’s head left in a box for Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts last week will undoubtedly be the strangest baseball story of the year. In an ode to the Curse of the Billy Goat, the head serves as a reminder for something every Cubs fan knows — it’s been 104 years since a World Series title.

Lawmakers should strengthen the bench
North Dakota courts are very busy. There’s more business, more people and, inevitably, more need for judges. Responding to that need, the state Legislature will add three or four district judges to the Northwest, East Central and, perhaps, the South Central districts. It will be taxes well spent.

Opinion corner: Masters caves for Tiger
This year’s Masters was but another tawdry chapter in the life and career of Tiger Woods. The events at Augusta surely must have the great Bobby Jones spinning in his grave.

Letter to the editor: Whatever happened to anti-war leaders?
Something is wrong in America. The last president to go the extra mile for peace was President George H.W. Bush (the elder) preceding the Gulf War back around 1990. He got about 95 percent of the world’s support and much military help from other countries, including Arab countries, before expelling Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait after he had more or less tried to annex Kuwait.

Letter to the editor: Morals are going to pot and must be restored in America
Morals? This is my opinion, others have theirs. Morals in this country, pardon the pun, are going to pot! Recent history has produced a lot of issues. Among them; abortion, illegal drugs, gay rights, and now a pill that will encourage unprotected sex among young people. Who pays for this lack of morality? The government, we the people, society or all of the above? Some is paid by various government agencies, others by private insurance companies.

Keep on top of crew camp issue
Stutsman County and the city of Jamestown are smart to plan for possible crew camps in the area, and people should stay informed about the process. While overall a positive for the area, economic development does bring problems with it, and the Jamestown area is experiencing a housing crunch due to growth. It’s a great problem to have — the rest of the nation, with its high unemployment figures, still looks to North Dakota with great envy — but it’s still a problem.
