Bentz speaks at Kiwanis meeting
Kent Horton introduced Don Bentz at last week’s Kiwanis meeting to speak on his 33 years of employment with KSJB. Bentz delivered a humorous talk on some of the things that happened to him during these years. He was in sales and did a great deal of traveling. He said rock and roll was harder to sell. When country western music came in, it was easier. When he was working, rates were $7 for a 30-second commercial. A saturation package, which was 100 spots, was $100.

Door-to-door sales return
It’s that time of year again! Each spring and summer door-to-door salespeople begin soliciting business from residents, offering products and services from magazine subscriptions and cleaning supplies to vacuum cleaners and heat detectors, as well as expensive items like painting, paving, tree trimming and home repairs. Although legitimate business people may use this method of contact, door-to-door sales are a magnet for fringe operators, whose intentions are not honorable.
