Black Sox’s Guler earns all-state honors
Three area players have been named to the Class B all-state baseball team. Stephen Guler, a multi-sport standout at New Rockford-Sheyenne, was named to the all-state team. Guler, a pitcher and infielder, earned Region 3 Senior Athlete of the Year honors for the Black Sox this past season.

Matt Bunk, 32, is editor and publisher of the Great Plains Examiner, available in print and online. After working as a reporter and editor in several states, he said he became frustrated with the way corporate newspapers operate.

The defending state Class B baseball champions were dethroned on Friday at the state tourney in Mandan. The Velva-Drake-Anamoose Aggies scored the first run of the first semifinal contest of the afternoon in the top of the first inning, but didn’t score from there on out as Grafton knocked off the Aggies 3-1. Grafton will face Kindred-Richland in the title game tonight after the Vikings routed May-Port-C-G 20-1 in five innings in the second semifinal.

It took extra innings, but the defending state Class B baseball champion Velva-Drake-Anamoose Aggies survived a 1-0 ballgame vs. Watford City during the opening round of the state tournament at Mandan’s Memorial Ballpark on Thursday. Both the Aggies and the Wolves went a full seven innings, before Velva-Drake-Anamoose’s Zach Craig scored the only run of the game in the top of the eighth.

Weather will factor into ‘B’ meet
Fittingly, weather will play a pivotal role at the opening round of the Class B boys’ state golf meet today in Carrington. While all spring sports were hit hard by the rotten spring weather, none took the brunt of Mother Nature’s punch more so than golf teams, particularly Class B schools, who have little to no access to indoor facilities.
