Same-sex marriage: Analysis shows N.D. to favor it by 2016
A majority of North Dakotans will be in favor of same-sex marriage by 2016, if we’re to believe Nate Silver. Silver, a statistician who blogs for the New York Times, predicts in a recent polling analysis that 51 percent of the state will favor same-sex marriage in just three years. By 2020, Silver predicts, that number goes up to 58 percent.

Letter to the editor: Whatever happened to anti-war leaders?
Something is wrong in America. The last president to go the extra mile for peace was President George H.W. Bush (the elder) preceding the Gulf War back around 1990. He got about 95 percent of the world’s support and much military help from other countries, including Arab countries, before expelling Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait after he had more or less tried to annex Kuwait.

Letter to the editor: Letter criticizing GOP, laws to limit abortion is wrong
Once again Brad Mills has written a letter to the editor (April 4) blasting the Republicans in the North Dakota Legislature. As he has done in the past, his letter is filled with misinformation, inaccuracies and, unfortunately, a willingness to launch a somewhat vicious partisan attack.

Letter to the editor: Morals are going to pot and must be restored in America
Morals? This is my opinion, others have theirs. Morals in this country, pardon the pun, are going to pot! Recent history has produced a lot of issues. Among them; abortion, illegal drugs, gay rights, and now a pill that will encourage unprotected sex among young people. Who pays for this lack of morality? The government, we the people, society or all of the above? Some is paid by various government agencies, others by private insurance companies.

Keep on top of crew camp issue
Stutsman County and the city of Jamestown are smart to plan for possible crew camps in the area, and people should stay informed about the process. While overall a positive for the area, economic development does bring problems with it, and the Jamestown area is experiencing a housing crunch due to growth. It’s a great problem to have — the rest of the nation, with its high unemployment figures, still looks to North Dakota with great envy — but it’s still a problem.

The Chicago Cubs found a severed goat’s head at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, and they’re treating the cruel reference to a longtime curse as a crime.

Aquatic nuisances not just biological problem
It won't be long before another season for open-water fishing and boating returns to North Dakota, and that means another season of monitoring for aquatic nuisance species, or ANS.

Corps’ plan: Click ‘unlike’
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers apparently learned nothing from the disastrous Souris River flood of 2011, at least not when it comes to communication.

Legislature sends mixed message
In just a matter of hours, the North Dakota Legislature sent a confusing message about open government. The State Senate did the right thing when it approved an amendment removing executive sessions from House Bill 1215 on March 27. The amendment guaranteed that if school boards wanted to allow guns on campus, any discussion about the issue would be done in public.

The psychiatrist appointed by the court says Aaron Schaffhausen was sane when he murdered his three little daughters. The clinical psychologist hired by the defense says he was not. Letter to the editor: It’s time to bring our service members home from wars
We were taken into two wars on lies. It’s a shame that former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney made sure the information they received from Secret Service and the Intelligence Department was changed to take us into war. The department could not believe the information they received should have been used to take us into two wars.

Zealotry in government only leads to bad laws
In recent weeks, the North Dakota Legislature has seen too much lawmaking for a cause and not enough lawmaking for the state. Case in point: The so-called “Grande amendment” to Senate Bill 2368, mercifully stripped out of the bill by a conference committee.

Letter to the editor: Fargo diversion project is not the best option against floods
I am compelled to tell my fellow North Dakotans about the grand scheme that Fargo is trying to sell to the Legislature. If sold, North Dakota taxpayers will be on the hook for at least $562 million of the full amount of the scheme, $2 billion.

Letter to the editor: All Iraq war did was kill Iraqi people and waste money
Long after President George H. W. Bush’s march into Iraq to prevent Saddam Hussein from taking over oil-rich Kuwait and baby Bush’s seeking revenge for his daddy’s unfinished work by finishing off bad ol’ Saddam, I was wondering what our peace-loving action has produced, which is not much according to Iraqi-American writer and activist Jonathon Azaziah.
