Library Board talks new building project
Fundraising plans for a possible new library continued at Monday’s meeting of the James River Library System Library Board. “This is like a three-tiered chess game — in the library, in the community, in the state and outside the state — national,” said Bill Kennedy, development director, who was hired to help raise money for the project. “… I work with all three layers, and it takes patience. There’s a roller coaster, sometimes, with how fundraising works.”

Pussy willows show the first signs of spring
Every year when spring comes along, I am met with wonderful memories of the past. One of those memories is when I was in college and getting that March phone call from a friend of mine who was in her late 70s at the time. She would call and ask when I could pick her up to go to Minnesota and harvest pussy willow branches along the ponds. Like clockwork, she knew when they would be in their prime.
