Staking tomatoes brings benefits, responsibilities
A month from now, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Tomato seedlings that were planted neatly near garden stakes are already beginning to take matters into their own hands, and if allowed to grow willy nilly will turn into a tangled mass of vines with tomato fruits — many of them rotting — hidden in a dark jungle of stems. So, if you were planning to stake and prune your tomato plants, start asserting yourself now.

A grilled salad perfect for Dad on Father’s Day
My approach to food is pretty simple. I firmly believe that if you can eat it, you can grill it. When I wrote my first cookbook, I compiled my favorite grilled foods. Some were familiar, but some seemed pretty crazy back in 2005!

A fresh take on Father’s Day surf and turf
When I think surf and turf, I think rich and overwrought. It’s not that I mind big and bold. It’s just that I prefer them when paired with fresh and vibrant, especially as we head into summer. So for Father’s Day I decided to rethink the classic surf and turf. My goal was to retain the meaty goodness of the dish, but make the flavors really pop and keep the dish feeling fresh.

Stocks jump after jobs report beats forecasts
Steady growth in hiring last month sent the stock market sharply higher Friday. The 175,000 jobs added by U.S. employers last month was just what investors wanted. The number suggested that the economy is growing, but not so strongly that the Federal Reserve will pull back from its economic stimulus soon.
