Opinion Corner: Ron was one of a kind
More than any sport that I’ve been involved in through the years, baseball has always produced the most colorful characters. All sports have their Rollie Greenos. People everybody has a story about, but baseball seems to produce some of the most unique folks.

JC women put away Lions
There haven’t been many issues for the Jimmie women this season. But if you want to nit-pick, putting inferior teams away late in the game, would be a lingering issue. That was not the case Tuesday night, however.

Running w/ the Ducks: Conlon reflects on All-American season
Becoming an All-American for the Oregon Ducks took a while to sink in for Katie Conlon. It was certainly understandable for the former Jimmie and Blue Jay standout. It’d be like a basketball player excelling at Duke. Or a football player going to Alabama or Ohio State.

Jimmie women now 7-1, men fall by one
The Jimmies expect to get other team’s best shot. Coach Greg Ulland would like to see his team respond better to it, however. Still, the Jimmies held Dickinson State to 50 points Friday night en route to a 12-point road win on the Blue Hawks’ home court. The JC men were also on the road, but came up just short against a ranked NAIA Division I team.

Perleberg’s enjoyed Jamestown soccer ride
Ross Perleberg has seen the highs and lows of soccer in Jamestown. Whether it be wearing Blue and White or Black and Orange, the former Blue Jay and current Jimmie has seen about everything soccer-wise in Jamestown. “It’s been interesting, both the good and bad,” said Perleberg, the lone Jamestown product on the national-tournament bound Jimmies. “I have a lot of memories that I’ll be able to look back on when I’m older and when I’m done playing, and most of them are good ones.”

Five girls score as Blue Jays off to 2-0 start
Despite a slow opening period Friday night, the Blue Jay girls hockey team is off to a 2-0 start for the first time, well, probably ever. Five players scored and Jamestown’s play improved with each period in a 5-0 blanking of Mandan. In two games, the Blue Jays have outscored Fargo North and the Braves 7-0.

Opinion Corner: Dayton deserves kudos
Rarely does anything good come from sports and politics intertwining. But when it does, it’s worth noting. That was the case in Minnesota last week when Gov. Mark Dayton fired a shot across the bow of the New Jersey-based owners of the Minnesota Vikings.
