Pondering public art
I’ve recently returned from travels and I’m convinced that there is both a need and a benefit to public art. You ask, what’s public art? Here, I’m talking about anything that is put on display in a public location that makes a visual statement, defines the space, creates a dialog and tells a story.

Bismarck wins two over Blue Jays in the rain
The conditions at McElroy Park on Thursday weren’t exactly ideal, and a lack of consistency again hurt the Jamestown Blue Jay softball team. Bismarck High eighth-grader Jaime Barta took the circle in both West Region contests as rain spit from the sky. Barta picked up 21 strikeouts in all, leading the Demons to a 7-1 and 15-6 sweep over the Blue Jays.

Swept away: Jays take two from Century
Ben Walz provided the kind of timely hitting needed to beat Bismarck Century on Thursday. The offense was mostly stagnant, but it was Walz’ two-run double in the second inning that lifted the Jamestown High School baseball team to a 4-2 victory in West Region action at Jack Brown Stadium. If that wasn’t enough, Walz drilled a two-run single up the middle to lift the Blue Jays 2-1 in the nightcap.
