The Jamestown Public School Board discussed measures to increase school safety, but did not approve any immediate changes at Monday’s meeting. “We’re not looking for any motion tonight. This isn’t decision making, but we really need to have a discussion on how far do we want to go in our district for changes in the schools — especially at the elementary level,” said JPS Superintendent Bob Toso.

An educator who spent eight years of his professional career in Jamestown as director of elementary education will not receive an interview by the Jamestown Public School Board for the superintendent position. David Saxberg, current principal at Will-Moore Elementary School in Bismarck, ranked fifth in the list of eight candidates who were reviewed at a special meeting Monday night. Letter to the editor: Changes coming to make Jamestown schools safer
A week ago, our safe little world was shook up again as we witnessed another senseless rampage, this time in Connecticut. It seems inconceivable that someone could come up with a plan to murder little kids, still full of the innocence of childhood. The story continues to rip at our hearts this week as we witness the funerals for the students and staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School. I don’t know what the answers are to these violent outbreaks.
