Obama, victims' families overcome by gun owners
Four months ago, President Barack Obama promised a grieving nation he would do everything in his power to change gun laws after 26 students and staff were shot to death at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Turns out his power and the impassioned pleas of devastated families were no match for the force of gun rights advocates in Congress and across the nation.

North Dakota’s senators are on different sides of the political aisle, but they do agree on one thing: The Senate’s gun control debate should focus more on dealing with the mentally ill and criminals than on expanding background checks to buy those weapons.

Letter to the editor: Morals are going to pot and must be restored in America
Morals? This is my opinion, others have theirs. Morals in this country, pardon the pun, are going to pot! Recent history has produced a lot of issues. Among them; abortion, illegal drugs, gay rights, and now a pill that will encourage unprotected sex among young people. Who pays for this lack of morality? The government, we the people, society or all of the above? Some is paid by various government agencies, others by private insurance companies.
