USDA report shows number of farms decreasing
U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest farm numbers report lead one to wonder where all of the farms are going. According to the annual farm numbers report for 2012 that was released last month, there were approximately 2.2 million farms in the U.S last year, which is a decrease of about 11,630 farms from 2011.

Roy Hoffman
Roy S. Hoffman, 83, Minot, died Sunday, February 24, 2013, in his home. Roy “Ray” Stanley Hoffman was born December 6, 1929, in Logan County, “Flat” south of Streeter, N.D., the son of John and Katherina (Ketterling) Hoffman. He attended rural school and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1947.

North Star, Carrington and Four Winds-Minnewaukan won by 20 points or more and St. John took care of Harvey-Wells County in the nightcap. Jake Hagler had 18 points and Daniel Grande added 14 as second-ranked North Star rolled over New Rockford-Sheyenne.

The Carrington Cardinals got off to a bit of a slow start, and they were never able to fully recover during the championship game of the District 7 tournament at the Devils Lake Sports Center on Tuesday night. Four Winds/Minnewaukan’s Collin Delorme (14 points) and Austin Longie (11) led 9 players in scoring, as the Indians won the District 7 crown with a 54-51 victory over the Cardinals.

Leitner speaks on airport at Rotary
Lyman Keim introduced Matt Leitner, manager of the Jamestown Regional Airport, at the recent Rotary meeting. Since Leitner came 2 1/2 years ago, he has seen a new airport terminal completed, a new airline provider as well as some land use development start to take place. Leitner is also a licensed pilot. He said he feels the Jamestown airport provides many reasons to fly Jamestown. Currently Great Lakes Aviation is providing air service to Jamestown.
