Travis Hafner appears close to returning to the diamond. The Cleveland Indians designated hitter will begin a minor-league rehab stint today with the Columbus (Ohio) Clippers, Cleveland’s Triple A team. Hafner, a Sykeston, N.D., native, has been sidelined since May 24 and underwent surgery on his right knee on May 31. He had experienced fraying and irritation in his meniscus, although he was unsure what caused the injury. It was his sixth trip to the disabled list in the last five years.
