Two-step method ensures moist chicken
The curse of roasted chicken — especially when you are working with parts rather than a whole bird — is how easily is dries out. A few too many minutes in the oven can be all it takes to go from juicy to chewy.

Nature is full of garden helpers
Looking for some help in the garden? Many of nature’s most useful critters lie literally at our feet, underappreciated and ignored despite their ability to eliminate insects, condition soils and pollinate plants. Turtles, moths, moles, dragonflies, snakes, toads and spiders are among the many wild things that can help maintain a landscape. The payback is minimal — food, water, shelter and easing off on harsh lawn and garden chemicals.

Actual skills that helped
When I observe two generations of people younger than myself who cannot seem to go more than eight minutes without playing with their electronic gadgetry, I hesitate to point out a few educational experiences from the distant past that helped me during my work years. But I’ll do it anyway. At St. John’s Academy more than a half century ago, a couple nuns forced us urchins to diagram sentences.

Keep on top of crew camp issue
Stutsman County and the city of Jamestown are smart to plan for possible crew camps in the area, and people should stay informed about the process. While overall a positive for the area, economic development does bring problems with it, and the Jamestown area is experiencing a housing crunch due to growth. It’s a great problem to have — the rest of the nation, with its high unemployment figures, still looks to North Dakota with great envy — but it’s still a problem.
