Hawkins to be honored at Frontier Village
A memorial plaque dedicated to former Jamestown booster Reese Hawkins will be created and displayed at Frontier Village in Jamestown. That was announced Friday at the Buffalo City Tourism Foundation Executive Board’s monthly meeting by BCTF Executive Director Nina Sneider. “It will be a great way to commemorate Reese and Margaret Hawkins,” Sneider said.

Growth: First-quarter taxable sales, purchases up 14.5 percent
North Dakota’s taxable sales and purchases for the first quarter of 2012 are up more than 52 percent statewide from 2011, according to a report released Wednesday by the North Dakota Tax Commissioner’s Office. “This report shows that the growth and strength of the economy is across the entire state in almost all of the industry sectors,” said Cory Fong, state tax commissioner.

For years now there has been increased light shed on young athletes picking a sport at a young age and putting all their eggs in that basket — specializing is the term.
