Column: Waiting for sequestration in a basement bunker

Letter to the editor: N.D. doesn’t need to cut its oil production taxes
I see where our illustrious Republican-controlled Senate approved a bill to lower production taxes for big oil. Who votes for these buffoons? Exxon’s profits in 2012 were $44.9 billion, just short of the world record, according to CNNMoney.

It is time for the North Dakota Legislature to focus on property tax relief and reform. In light of the debate on the Measure 2 property tax elimination amendment on last June’s ballot, it is clear that North Dakotans want action on this issue. The time for the Legislature to act is now.

Reject two anti-local tax bills
When North Dakota’s Republican legislators preach that they want smaller, less intrusive government, don’t believe them. The contradiction in what they say and what they do is rife with hypocrisy.

Questionable license plates sometimes recalled
Sorry, MUFFMAN, you’ve been exposed. Tough luck, BTCH4LF, your life was cut short. DOOBARU, you’ll have to find another name for your Subaru. PLAYBOY, it seems you were too playful for North Dakota sensibilities. And, to the gatekeepers tasked with weeding out potentially offensive personalized license plates, RENOB probably seemed innocuous enough — but apparently they never looked at it in a mirror.

Letter to the editor: Legislature has too much money at its disposal
I don’t know about the rest of you, but whenever there is a super majority in the North Dakota Legislature the atmosphere and basic philosophies go right down the toilet. Examples would be the House approval to buy a skiing lodge and speeding charges based on another state’s fines. In the Senate we seem to have an ongoing or continuing resolution just in case we have to buy out the higher ed chancellor. But it’s just with the funny money from the taxpayer.

Rep. Al Carlson, R-Fargo, can’t possibly justify amendments to a water funding bill that, if they survive, will halt progress on the most important feature of Fargo’s permanent flood control plan, the Red River diversion.
