JC student exploring Harry Potter film sites
For all Harry Potter fans (count me in) just imagine how it would feel to be in the Great Hall at Hogwarts, the sorting place for newcomers to the school of wizardry. Films are made every day, and what sets the Harry Potter series apart from many modern-day movies are the physical, everyday locations where the scenes were shot. Most of the places where the impactful shots were filmed, the “sorting hat scene” or the “sorcerer-stone scene,” etc., do exist. Not everything is computer-produced. Some things, including some strange and playful locations, are as real as your own home.

N.D. workers return home after Okla. tornado
Pilot Liz Lillard was in Williston on Monday as she watched a live feed of a massive tornado pass over her children’s day care in Moore, Okla. “It’s the worst feeling in the world to watch a tornado go over your two kids and there’s nothing you can do about it,” Lillard said. Lillard, a contract pilot for Hiland Partners of Enid, Okla., flies workers to and from North Dakota, which is where she was when disaster struck Monday.

Letter to the editor: Session hampered by questionable priorities
Senate Majority Leader Rich Wardner, R-Dickinson, and House Majority Leader Al Carlson, R-Fargo, recently boasted that they “got the job done for the citizens.” If that’s the definition of getting the job done, we fully expect the people of North Dakota to decide someone else should do the job. Too often, tremendous opportunities were squandered by an overly-ideological GOP majority with seriously misplaced priorities.

Diversion progress is excellent
It’s been a couple of very good months for the Fargo-Moorhead diversion project. The North Dakota Legislature appropriated sufficient funding for Fargo flood control projects, and signaled that state support for the diversion was solid. The U.S. Senate passed the Water Resources Development Act, which includes authorization for permanent flood control in the Red River Valley, which includes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-favored diversion.
