The Jamestown High School boys tennis team fell one game short of state. After a first-round loss to Bismarck Century at the West Region Tournament, the Blue Jays defeated Dickinson 4-1 in a loser-out match. That set up a state-qualifier against Bismarck, which won 4-1.

Anderson wins BSN Special Teams award
Jamestown College’s Craig Anderson has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week by Beyond Sports Network. Anderson, a senior from Hartsville, South Carolina, averaged 46 yards per punt in the Jimmies 13-10 loss to 21st-ranked Valley City State on Saturday. Anderson’s five punts covered 230 yards with a long of 68 against the Vikings.

Coaches keep focus on the field
The Paint Bucket is a valued trinket for the winner of today’s Jimmie/Viking game at Rollie Greeno Field. It will be hoisted near midfield by the winning team when the final horn sounds. The alumni of the victorious school will own bragging rights over the other, although only for 28 days until the two meet again Oct. 22 in Valley City. All the secondary things that go along with the rivalry are important, but not necessarily relevant to either head coach.

Blue Jays fall to Bismarck
The top four tennis teams in the West Region are tough, and Bismarck is one of them. The Demons showed it again Thursday night with a 9-0 win over the Blue Jays, although JHS coach Pat Mullowney liked the way his team played. “There’s no let up with those top four teams,” he said. “They’re just really strong. That’s the way it is. We battled them all the way. I was proud of how our kids played, Bismarck is just tough.”
