The Southeast Jamestown Regional DUI Task Force is conducting heightened DUI enforcement from June 8-23. The goal of the Regional DUI Task Force is to deter the public from driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs to keep North Dakota roads safe for all users.

Longtime coach, LaMoure native Thielges dies
Leon Thielges was the senior leader of the 1976 LaMoure boys basketball team that won the North Dakota Class B state championship. The Loboes’ leader passed away Tuesday at the age of 54.

Letter to the editor: Measure 2 will put funds for emergency crews in jeopardy
As a person who normally votes to reduce taxes, I feel it is my duty to warn citizens of the area about the dire consequences of Measure 2. The abolishment of property taxes sounds interesting to me, but it would prohibit cities, counties, school districts, townships, fire districts, ambulance districts and any other political subdivisions from levying a tax on assessed property values.

From his post at the end of Louis L’Amour Lane, Dakota Thunder has presided over Jamestown, N.D., since 1959, providing thousands of tourists with photo ops every year — if they’re willing to stand back far enough to fit his 26-foot-tall profile into the frame.

The University of North Dakota has released its fall 2011 President’s Roll of Honor. To qualify for roll of honor, a student must have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.80 or higher. The student must also have earned a minimum of 30 semester hours and have completed a minimum of 12 hours at the close of the semester, eight of which must be fore traditional letter grades.

UND deans’ list released
The University of North Dakota has released its winter 2011 deans’ list. The UND deans’ list includes students whose grade point averages are in the top 15 percent of the enrollment in each of the university’s degree granting colleges and schools. A student must have completed no fewer than 12 semester hours of academic work for the semester, of which eight or more hours must be graded work rather than “satisfactory/unsatisfactory.”

With summer vacation season soon beginning, children from low-income families will no longer have access to free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch meals at school. This could add more pressure on the local food pantries at The Salvation Army and Community Action Region VI.
