Pass the plate for people in the Oil Patch
There is a great deal of concern among my household and that of thousands of households in western North Dakota. I am a lifelong North Dakotan as is my spouse. Both our families have long standing ties to the community that trace back to homesteading days. Our grandparents and great-grandparents came to this state two and three generations ago and by the sweat of their brow and the callousing of their hands carved out a life, a community, a future from the land. Some years were good to them, some not, as is the case when you rely on God’s grace to send rain when needed, to hold storms at bay until harvest in done, to keep the family healthy and safe in between.

Looking back, and ahead, to deer season
The minute the regular deer gun season closed last fall, hunters were already assessing their season and looking forward to 2013. For some hunters, deer season is the only season. For others, planning next fall’s hunt begins with scheduling vacation for the next opener, which this year is projected to start Friday, Nov. 8 at noon.

OT Fisher selected No. 1
NFL teams bought in bulk early in Thursday night’s draft. Unlike the last few glam-and-glitter years when bumper crops of quarterbacks reigned, this was pure brawn: more than 600 pounds at the outset with offensive tackles Eric Fisher of Central Michigan and Luke Joeckel of Texas A&M.
