Letter to the editor: Republicans want more intrusion in people’s lives
In this year’s state legislative session, I hope people are paying attention. There is a level of arrogance and contempt for ordinary citizens that can only be explained by a Republican Party corrupted by excessive power.

Letter to the editor: Lawmakers stood up for life in the N.D. Legislature
For too long, the leadership of the North Dakota Republican Party has squandered opportunities to lead the nation on issues of truth and integrity. It tends to function as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Republican National Committee.

Letter to the editor: Taxpayer money shouldn’t be used to support jihadists
This letter is prompted by a remark made recently on local TV news as National Guard members were gearing to help with the flood protection. It was said that the National Guard is feeling the “pinch” of the sequestration of funds by Washington.

Letter to the editor: Zealots in Legislature more concerned with their beliefs
Listening to the current effort of the North Dakota Legislature to ban all abortions and give civil rights as soon as the sperm hits the egg makes me believe they are more concerned with their own personal religious beliefs than upholding our Constitution.

Letter to the editor: Anti-abortion laws are result of jobs well done in N.D.
Growing up in North Dakota has forced me to shrug off all the bumpkin redneck rhetoric with which much of the nation has flagged our state. So it is with great pleasure that I listen to news reporters and read articles praising a job well done in our state.

Letter to the editor: N.D. voters shouldn’t have to hand an ID card to vote
Every election season, you’ll read at least one article in local media or national, that points out that North Dakota is the only state in the union that doesn’t require voter registration. Should we be ashamed of that? Of course not. North Dakota is a state of pioneers, and I think we take a lot of pride in that spirit. We do things differently here. We do things better.

Letter to the editor: Taxes pay for services to the nation first, then other items
Perhaps there will be an effort to find solutions to systematically reduce national debt without causing new debt that doesn’t strengthen the nation, its citizens or increase employment. Elected officials joining into solution finding would be positive.

Letter to the editor: Abortion decisions should not be political issue
I am so fortunate that, during my child-bearing years, I had complete control over my body, and Planned Parenthood was available to me. I feel sorry for women nowadays because they are the target of Republicans wanting to control them, keep them underpaid and in poverty and infringing on the unalienable Rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Letter to the editor: Pro-lifers should volunteer to adopt unwanted children
There are some issues that really disturb me. I have never had to decide abortion or no abortion; since I am a great-grandmother, I’ll never make that choice.

Letter to the editor: E-cigs and smokeless tobacco aren’t solutions
The North Dakota House of Representatives supported HCR 3033 by only one vote, and it now awaits action in the North Dakota Senate. HCR 3033 is a resolution to study the feasibility of promoting the use of smokeless tobacco (snus and chew) as well as newer products like electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) as safe alternatives to cigarette smoking under the title of a “harm reduction strategy.”

Letter to the editor: Legislature right to pass bills to block abortions
We applaud our North Dakota Legislature for passing some of the most pro-woman and pro-life health laws in our nation with the intent to uphold the sanctity of human life in our great state. For all the criticism these bills have received from the secular media and pro-abortion supporters, these sources have failed to respond to the one question that defines why the good people of North Dakota are pursuing this type of legislation.

Letter to the editor: ‘Personhood’ bill is intrusion by government into health
I’ve never been more confused; what does the North Dakota Republican Party stand for? I understood Republicans believed in less government involvement, personal responsibility, fiscal restraint to leave more money in the people’s pocket. I get that, but here are just a few examples Republican legislators don’t.

Flaring of natural gas in western North Dakota is out of control. We can monitor the expanding oil development and excessive waste in the Bakken compliments of nighttime satellite images of North America.

Letter to the editor: Support is key to helping promote Frontier Village
I, would like to “thank” Alden Kollman, president of Buffalo City Tourism Foundation, for his recognition that Frontier Village was trying to advertise/promote “outside” of the box, (50 miles outside of the Jamestown/Stutsman County area) as suggested by BCTF, in our request for the Pioneer Days events in the 2013 season.

Letter to the editor: Taxpayers shouldn’t pay more to cover costs of camps
Stutsman County will see a lot of industrial growth over the next two or three years. At the peak of this activity it could take up to 2,000 workers to build these projects. The county is preparing itself for the appearance of crew camps to house these workers. This would be a sensible solution to a temporary housing need.
