Jennings’ future uncertain
Greg Jennings is not naive and he’s not ignoring reality, either. The veteran wide receiver is in the final year of his contract, and has yet to hear from the Green Bay Packers about an extension. Common sense — and Green Bay history — would suggest that means he’ll be playing somewhere else next season, a notion Jennings doesn’t dispute.

Twins court cheap pitching
The Minnesota Twins are desperate for starting pitcher, but don’t appear willing to spend much money on it. Numerous media reports have the pitching-needy Twins interested in lower-tier, or cheaper, pitching alternatives despite coming off back-to-back last-place finishes in the American League Central division. The Twins currently have just one starting pitcher set for next season in left-hander Scott Diamond.

Packers trying to protect Rodgers
For a guy who does his best work in the air, Aaron Rodgers is spending way too much time on the ground. The reigning NFL MVP has been sacked 37 times, more than any quarterback in the league. He's been knocked down more in the first 11 games than all of last season (36 sacks), and is on pace to topple the career-high 50 sacks he took in 2009.

EPA turns down states’ requests for ethanol waiver
The Environmental Protection Agency on Friday denied requests from several governors to waive production requirements for corn-based ethanol. A renewable fuels law requires that 13.2 billion gallons of ethanol be produced by this year and 15 billion gallons be produced by 2015. That’s good for corn farmers, but it’s angered poultry, hog and cattle farmers. They say they’ve seen big jumps in corn-based feed costs as corn is diverted to make ethanol vehicle fuel.

Rest up, Packers
Good thing the Green Bay Packers are off this week. They’re going to need it. Five of Green Bay’s last seven games will be against NFC North opponents, a stretch that could prove every bit as tough for the banged-up Packers as the challenges they faced in the first half.
