Oakes mourning loss of teenager in vehicle crash
This small town of roughly 1,800 people spent Tuesday in a state of grief, mourning the loss of one of their own. Ashley Meyer, 16, died in a two-vehicle car crash Monday near Valley City, N.D. Meyer lost control of the car she was driving, which then spun into the lane of an oncoming minivan on slush-covered Highway 1. The minivan struck the car in the driver-side door.

Oakes scored 152 points to earn a fourth consecutive Class B individual team title at the North Dakota state tournament at the Bismarck Civic Center.

The Napoleon Imperials made a statement with their 78-73 double-overtime victory over Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock last Saturday in the championship game of the District 6 Boys’ Basketball Tournament in Wishek. First and foremost, it was the team’s first district title in two decades. But it also cemented the Imperials as a bona fide contender for the Region 3 tournament crown, which gets underway today at 3 p.m. inside the Jamestown Civic Center.
