When No Child Left Behind became law in 2001 states were able to draw up their own education standards, according to Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent Bob Toso.

Louis L’Amour and Washington Elementary schools will soon share the time of one principal. The Jamestown Public School Board approved an administrative proposal at its meeting Monday that would require one administrator to serve as principal to both elementary schools.

District fails to make AYP: High school and middle school don’t meet goals for second and third year, respectively
The results are in and for the third consecutive year the Jamestown Public School District failed to meet adequate yearly progress. The Jamestown Public School Board learned about this at Monday’s meeting. “This is one of the issues we have with No Child Left Behind,” said JPS Superintendent Bob Toso. “It just sets up every school and district for failure.”

On Monday the Jamestown Public School Board heard plans for a new board that will be formed with the intended effect of reducing dropout numbers. Superintendent Bob Toso has been working for more than two years on the School Attendance Review Board, which will include community agencies to better address attendance issues.
