Winter Show to open next week
For the 76th time, residents of North Dakota will head to Valley City for the North Dakota Winter Show. The event kicks off a full slate of events on March 5 with a schedule that includes the opening of the commercial exhibits, world’s largest crop show and an old-time tractor pull. The Winter Show runs through March 10.

Roy S. Hoffman, 83, Minot, died Sunday, February 24, 2013, in his home. Roy “Ray” Stanley Hoffman was born December 6, 1929, in Logan County, “Flat” south of Streeter, N.D., the son of John and Katherina (Ketterling) Hoffman. He attended rural school and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1947.

Tax issues discussed at Rotary
During the Feb. 19 Rotary meeting, Duane Dunn shared on tax law changes taking effect in 2013. With the “fiscal cliff” challenge and the Bush tax benefits that expired Dec. 31, Congress made a few changes and continued many of the previous rules. Because Congress waited beyond the end of the year of 2012 to pass certain laws, the Internal Revenue Service told Congress it would take them until Jan. 31, 2013, to get the printing of the new forms completed.

Stolen building found with man who made deal for it five years ago
A metal building reported stolen here this week has been found in the possession of a Barnesville-area man who made a deal for the building five years ago, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office says. Detective Jason Hicks called it “simply a misunderstanding” and said authorities have no reason to suspect any criminal activity on the man’s part.
