North Dakota’s senators are on different sides of the political aisle, but they do agree on one thing: The Senate’s gun control debate should focus more on dealing with the mentally ill and criminals than on expanding background checks to buy those weapons.

Letter to the editor: Morals are going to pot and must be restored in America
Morals? This is my opinion, others have theirs. Morals in this country, pardon the pun, are going to pot! Recent history has produced a lot of issues. Among them; abortion, illegal drugs, gay rights, and now a pill that will encourage unprotected sex among young people. Who pays for this lack of morality? The government, we the people, society or all of the above? Some is paid by various government agencies, others by private insurance companies.

Paul Allen sports show to continue on 740-The Fan
Upon further review, it appears “The Paul Allen Project” heard on 740-AM The Fan in the Fargo-Moorhead area will not be pre-empted. Radio Fargo-Moorhead operations manager Joel Heitkamp said Thursday it’s looking less likely that his “News & Views” show on KFGO-AM will be simulcast on The Fan. RFM on Tuesday sent out a news release announcing plans of having Heitkamp’s 8:30-11 a.m. show also air on The Fan because of its wide-ranging signal.

Gay marriage: Heitkamp steps out in favor of same-sex marriage
North Dakota’s freshman Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp said Friday she supports marriage equality for same-sex partners, making her the highest-profile elected official in the state to back gay marriage. Heitkamp said her decision was the result of conversations she has had with North Dakotans across the state and based on a duty she feels toward friends who are in long-term, committed relationships but who are not allowed the same kind of recognition and privileges she and her husband enjoy.

I have recently seen a commercial on television regarding gun control that makes me wonder. The millionaire mayor of New York City has spent roughly $10 million of his own money nationwide, more than $150,000 of that in North Dakota alone, to influence people to follow his beliefs on gun control.
