Letter to the editor: Article got the facts right on water use in the Oil Patch
Amy Dalrymple’s recent article, “Water for oil: Industry used 5.4 billion gallons of water in 2012,” provided some much-needed context to an important issue in domestic energy production. As she correctly points out, hydraulic fracturing does consume a great deal of water.

Letter to the editor: Voter ID law will bar some legal voters from voting
House Bill 1332 would require government-issued photo identification for voting. This bill is a classic example of one from the American Legislative Exchange Council, which is an out-of-state special interest group funded by big business that would take away individuals’ rights to advance their own agenda.

Letter to the editor: Lawmakers should work in session; not play on Twitter
It has always been my understanding that the responsibility of a legislator during a floor session is to engage in debate and to discuss the policy vote at hand, not to Tweet or Facebook play-by-play updates.

Letter to the editor: Lawmakers should not use Twitter while in session
I was surprised and disappointed that The Sun editorial staff would defend the use of Twitter on the floor of the House while it was in session.

Letter to the editor: True runners should skip the Runnin O’ the Green
Many years ago I received a Runnin O’ the Green race entry form in the mail. As a participant in local road races, I thought the route and timing obstacles seemed peculiar. I happened to see a fellow running farmer friend so I asked him about it.

Letter to the editor: Senate ignores dangers of climage change to N.D.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 4024, which would direct “the Legislature to study the effects of climate change on this state” received a “do not pass” recommendation from the Senate Natural Resources Committee and defeated on a voice vote.

Letter to the editor: Legislators disrespect wishes of N.D. voters
I have become increasingly concerned with the actions some of our legislators have shown this session in disrespecting the wishes of North Dakota voters. There are bills attempting to make voting in general more difficult, to make it harder for regular people to initiate measures on the ballot, and to undermine the laws that voters created in the past by initiated measure.

Letter to the editor: N.D. doesn’t need to cut its oil production taxes
I see where our illustrious Republican-controlled Senate approved a bill to lower production taxes for big oil. Who votes for these buffoons? Exxon’s profits in 2012 were $44.9 billion, just short of the world record, according to CNNMoney.

Letter to the editor: Legislature must enact real property tax relief now
It is time for the North Dakota Legislature to focus on property tax relief and reform. In light of the debate on the Measure 2 property tax elimination amendment on last June’s ballot, it is clear that North Dakotans want action on this issue. The time for the Legislature to act is now.

Letter to the editor: Tax reform has been a priority of N.D. lawmakers
Meaningful and sustainable tax reform and relief have been the main focus for Republicans this legislative session. Currently, we sit at the legislative crossover which could effectively be considered halftime of the game. To date, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives has approved a historical $1 billion in income and property tax reductions.

Letter to the editor: Legislature has too much money at its disposal
I don’t know about the rest of you, but whenever there is a super majority in the North Dakota Legislature the atmosphere and basic philosophies go right down the toilet. Examples would be the House approval to buy a skiing lodge and speeding charges based on another state’s fines. In the Senate we seem to have an ongoing or continuing resolution just in case we have to buy out the higher ed chancellor. But it’s just with the funny money from the taxpayer.

Letter to the editor: People should have health care like Congress has
Amen to term limits. Thank you, Caroline Eli. Because, as I have written before, Congress works less than half a year, and of that time, only three hours a day is spent on the people’s business.

Letter to the editor: North Dakota lawmakers aren’t child friendly
I have been a resident of North Dakota all my life. For 60 years I have seen things that have thrilled me about our state, and I have seen things that disgust me. The anti-child legislation in the state houses is an example of the disgusting aspect of life in North Dakota.

Letter to the editor: Fargo’s wasteful diversion project needs to be stopped
Thus far, neither the federal government, flush with debt, nor leadership in the state of North Dakota, flush with cash, has stood up with common sense and integrity to halt the usurpation of citizen rights being stolen by the Fargo City Commission and the Cass County Diversion Authority.

Letter to the editor: Some lawmakers are simply out for themselves
We need term limits. We’ve had years of our Republicans and some Democrats doing nothing but condemn our president. Since the Republicans lost in the election, they’ve been trying every trick they can to fight the president every time he tries to get a bill through Congress.
