LA priest ministered despite abuse conviction
LOS ANGELES (AP) — When the Rev. John Anthony Salazar arrived in Tulia, Texas, in 1991, he was warmly welcomed by the Roman Catholic community tucked in the Texas Panhandle. What his new parishioners didn't know was he'd been hired out of a treatment program for pedophile priests — and that he'd been convicted for child molestation and banned from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for life.

Letter to the editor: Morals are going to pot and must be restored in America
Morals? This is my opinion, others have theirs. Morals in this country, pardon the pun, are going to pot! Recent history has produced a lot of issues. Among them; abortion, illegal drugs, gay rights, and now a pill that will encourage unprotected sex among young people. Who pays for this lack of morality? The government, we the people, society or all of the above? Some is paid by various government agencies, others by private insurance companies.

Gay marriage: Heitkamp steps out in favor of same-sex marriage
North Dakota’s freshman Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp said Friday she supports marriage equality for same-sex partners, making her the highest-profile elected official in the state to back gay marriage. Heitkamp said her decision was the result of conversations she has had with North Dakotans across the state and based on a duty she feels toward friends who are in long-term, committed relationships but who are not allowed the same kind of recognition and privileges she and her husband enjoy.

Grinding out grinding with class: At North High, dance lessons replace grinding with old-school moves
When North High School administrators bumped “grinding” from allowable dances at this year’s prom, lots of students thought outlawing the up-close-and-personal style of dancing would make attendance thin. But thanks to an impromptu dance academy, there’s a good chance at least some Spartans will cut footloose.
