The Southeast Region of the North Dakota Highway Patrol conducted a nine-day high-emphasis seat belt enforcement blitz Jan. 13-21. Troopers worked extended or extra shifts to positively affect seat belt usage in the region.

Carrington remains on top of the latest Class B girls’ basketball poll, while unbeaten North Star is No. 1 in last ‘B’ boys’ top 10 of the winter. The girls’ poll saw five teams get first-place votes with the Cardinals (14-1) and Kindred (16-0) getting five each. Carrington got one more point in voting done by the North Dakota Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets hung tough with the No. 1-ranked Class B boys’ basketball team for three quarters in New Rockford on Tuesday night. But in the end it was Jacob Hagler’s 36 points for North Star that lifted the Bearcats past the Rockets 71-58. Hagler scored 13 of his 36 in the first period, and he scored another 13 in the final frame.

Operation White Cloud, a drug case that originated in Stutsman County, curtailed the problem to an extent from 2007 to 2008, but meth is still a problem here, said Scott Edinger, chief of the Jamestown Police Department.
