Letter to the editor: Housing Incentive Fund is finding success in N.D.
There are many challenges facing us during this time of unprecedented growth and opportunity. If you had to name just one as the most significant issue, you would most likely single out “housing” and more specifically “affordable housing.”

Letter to the editor: North Dakota missed out on national bird counting event
It seems like just a few months ago that Jamestown area was pushing itself as the next great place for birdwatchers to visit. Growing up in the area I agreed but what I saw this past weekend makes me wonder what happened to the idea.

Letter to the editor: Diversion plan protects 92 percent of county’s people
As I think of this region’s need for the Fargo-Moorhead Area Diversion Project, I am reminded that the Cass County (North Dakota) Emergency Operations Center has been activated four times in the last decade for long, grueling bouts of flood response duty. Today, we have a plan in the Diversion Project that takes more than 92 percent of Cass County residents out of the flood plain.

Letter to the editor: North Dakota children already get their milk
Legislators are elected to address the needs of North Dakota. To do our duty effectively we invite the public to provide testimony on every bill. Many bills will have a dozen or more individuals or groups testify. What the Democrat House members fail to inform you is the “milk bill” had only two supporters: the Democrat sponsor himself and one letter from an organization located in his district.

Letter to the editor: Eventide expansion threatens local homeowners
The Eventide at Hi-Acres expansion is going to reduce the value of the homes on Second Place. The proposed zoning should be stopped due to the impact to homeowners. Eventide has no stake in home values in the northeast other than a Minnesota-based company to increase income for the company and CEO.

Letter to the editor: Milk bill was not a simple issue and called for caution
Just a few comments on the school milk bill that was voted down in the North Dakota Legislature recently. After reading an excellent editorial from the Grand Forks Herald about it on Tuesday, I was disappointed at the editorial from The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead and letter to the editor from Ashley Roeske in Thursday’s Jamestown Sun.

Letter to the editor: Legislature threatens the public’s initiative process
The Legislature is in session, again means we are in danger of losing more of our rights. We are supposed to have a government for the people, by the people and of the people. We elect men and women as senators and representatives to go to Bismarck to represent our interests.

Letter to the editor: Proposal to divert money to private schools a good idea
I commend North Dakota Rep. Mark Dosch on authoring and introducing HB 1466 to the legislative session and strongly encourage our state legislators to support this effort on behalf of all North Dakota children and youth.

Letter to the editor: Legislature shouldn’t be deciding women’s business
I am sick and tired of those in our Legislature who think they know more about making decisions about women’s bodies than we women do! Do they think we are too helpless to supply ourselves with contraceptives? Do they think we have no control over if or when we get pregnant? By the decisions they make for us, you’d think we didn’t know the cause of pregnancy and that we are at the mercy of the Legislature for our family planning options.

Letter to the editor: Congress should repeal law affecting Postal Service
Did you know, in 2006, Congress passed legislation that forced the U.S. Postal Services to prefund its retirement and health care to cover 75 years in the future and to do this in a 10-year window? This has cost the Postal Service $5.5 billion a year, and has put an undue financial burden on the Postal Service that no other company/business has been required to do.

Letter to the editor: Politicians shouldn’t try to undo what citizens want
As someone who proudly voted for Measure 4 and continues to support the law that helped North Dakotans breathe cleaner air by going smoke-free, it is ridiculous to see a handful of North Dakota politicians attempting to undo what 67 percent of us have done! Collectively 67 percent of North Dakotans voted for this smoke-free law, by majority in every single county.

Letter to the editor: Oil-drilling pads wasting too much space
House Bill 1348 would increase setbacks from oil wells to people’s homes from 500 feet to one-fourth mile. I testified in support of the bill. At the hearing, the North Dakota Petroleum Council made the argument that if you get setbacks to 1,000 feet or more, it will cost the surface owner the most! The reality is this would be the most effective way to make the oil companies use the new technology and build multi-pads instead of single well pads.

Letter to the editor: Funding for milk is about children in N.D.
Children and families in our state are struggling. There is a need for assistance for our kids whether that is a backpack program that feeds them over the weekend, or ensuring all students in kindergarten through third grade can have milk or juice during their snack break with their friends.

Letter to the editor: Bills will make it harder for North Dakotans to vote
All the voting-manipulation bills before this Legislature should be swiftly rebuffed. They are un-needed and un-American.

Letter to the editor: Capturing and utlizing flared natural gas makes sense
If you live in western North Dakota or look at satellite images from outer space, you can see the changes brought on by the Bakken oil boom. While North Dakota relishes in the economic bounty, negative impacts are being seen and reported. One of them — natural gas flaring — we can and should readily address.
