Pride of Dakota companies ponder co-op PressPass

Some Pride of Dakota members are looking into putting together a statewide cooperative to help sell their products to retailers by acting as a distributer. Currently, retailers contact Pride of Dakota companies directly. The co-op would allow stores to stock up many products at once. Pride of Dakota is a program administered by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture that helps promote businesses with products produced or manufactured in the state.

Crop production value falls in N.D. in 2009 The total value of the crops produced by North Dakota farmers plummeted last year after two consecutive years at record highs. A big reason for the decline was that the state’s staple wheat crop — though the biggest in more than a dozen years — was hurt by quality problems that made it less valuable to buyers.

Last year, floodwaters surged the farm and 100-year-old home of Carpenter’s parents, Alan and Joy. For more than three months, the couple moved in with Brad and his wife, Darla. Flooding cost the family 28 of its 80 head of cattle plus damage to the farm, the home and its contents. So this year, Brad said, they’ll be ready.
