BBB calls for nominations
The Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota is calling for nominations for its 11th annual Integrity Awards. The BBB Integrity Award recognizes companies that display outstanding ethics in dealings with customers, employees, vendors and the community. All for-profit businesses of any size, owned or operated in Minnesota or North Dakota, are eligible. Nominees must have a satisfactory rating with the BBB; however membership is not a requirement to compete for the award. The nomination deadline is April 30.March 13, 2010
Fishy compost a big seller last year in Dickinson
This city’s landfill sold more than 500 tons of compost last year made with the help of dead fish. Manager Ron Bachmeier said he expects heavy demand again this year for the compost at the bargain price of $15 a ton.March 08, 2010
Bismarck Bobcat properties for sale
Bobcat Co. has put three Bismarck properties up for sale. The company closed its manufacturing plant in the city in December. Bobcat spokeswoman Laura Ness Owens said the three properties being sold are the main factory, a smaller manufacturing building nearby and two acres of land northeast of the site.March 08, 2010

Ninteen North Dakota Guard and Reserve service members nominated their employers for the 2010 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers for their outstanding support of their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve. Midwest home sales mixed 
In the Midwest, January home sales plummeted 37 percent from December’s figure, but sales were still up nearly 4 percent over the previous year, according to figures released Friday by the National Association of Realtors.

MAC’S Inc. will be opening its 11th hardware store in Minot on March 1. This location will be the fifth MAC’S Hardware store in North Dakota and represents the first new location since its Huron, S.D., store opened in early 2007.

No layoffs in MeritCare, Sanford Health merger 
The merger of MeritCare and Sanford Health last fall has produced no layoffs and the health system continues to hire as it realigns the organization.
In fact, MeritCare’s 321 new hires since the November merger have outpaced the 248 hires during the same period in 2008-09, according to figures provided Thursday by the health system.

Pride of Dakota companies ponder co-op 
Some Pride of Dakota members are looking into putting together a statewide cooperative to help sell their products to retailers by acting as a distributer.
Currently, retailers contact Pride of Dakota companies directly. The co-op would allow stores to stock up many products at once.
Pride of Dakota is a program administered by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture that helps promote businesses with products produced or manufactured in the state.

Potato stocks down in North Dakota 
Potato stocks in North Dakota are down 13 percent from a year ago and 10 percent from 2008.
The Agriculture Department says the amount of potatoes held by growers, dealers and processors in the state on Feb. 1 stood at 9 million hundredweight — the lowest Feb. 1 level in 21 years.
