Thompson speaks at Rotary
Pebbles Thompson, director of Project Night-Light, a program which gives hope to abused children in the form of a backpack filled with special things, spoke at the Rotary meeting. Thompson is a credentialed minister through the Assemblies of God and previously served the Fargo area as a youth pastor. She and her husband have four children. She grew up in Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown High School.March 09, 2010
Dream Team completes dreams
The Ave Maria Dream Team completed two Day Dreams in February. The first dream was a trip out on the town, which included food, friends and fun. Day Dream Team member Rebecca Jensen and her daughter, Savanah Lawson, accompanied Roberta Reimers, Frank Miller and Sylvia Eberle to the Vets Club. They enjoyed a lunch and played 10 games of bingo on the Day Dream Team. The Vets Club treated them all to ice cream for dessert.March 09, 2010
Jamestown Auxiliary to host convention
The February meeting was held Feb. 1 in the Emil Weiland Room in Jamestown Hospital with 29 present including two guests, Donna Nelson from Valley City, N.D., and Carol Splonskowski from Jamestown. Guest speaker was Margo Haut, who gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Shriner’s Children Hospital. The presentation was made by Haut’s daughter, Lexus Marie, as a special Christmas gift to her parents.March 09, 2010
Rotary essay winners announced
Rotary has announced the winners of its 4-Way Essay Contest. The first-place essay winner is Nikki Iverson. Second place went to Melanie Etter. The third-place winner is Latasha Klatt. Iverson’s winning essay has been forwarded to the regional contest to compete against other district winners.March 09, 2010

Sue Carlson shared her experience at the recent International Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen, Denmark, during the last Rotary meeting. Carlson is a past president of the Wisconsin Farmers Union and has a vast knowledge of farming. Her husband, Robert, is president of the North Dakota Farmers Union.March 02, 2010

Jewels meeting for stew lunch
The Jewels of the Prairie will meet at 11:30 a.m. March 9 at the Jamestown Arts Center for a beef stew and roll lunch provided by T.J. Catering. There will be dessert. The program will be on the Irish potato famine and each Jewel is asked to bring a potato for the Community Action Food Pantry. Also bring some trivia about Ireland. Pederson speaks before Kiwanis Club
Kenrad Pederson of the Jamestown Kiwanis Club was the presenter at the Feb. 22 Kiwanis meeting. His program was on membership and the benefits of increasing the membership of the local club. One focus of Kiwanis is serving the community and increased membership would provide the opportunity to increase what can be done in communities.March 02, 2010
Girl Scouts: Put cell phones away
Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons, in conjunction with Insight Marketing Design, is launching a comprehensive campaign to encourage people to put their phones away while driving. The campaign will be launched during the Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons Annual Meeting on May 1, in Aberdeen, S.D. Through the leadership of Girl Scouts, Scouts intend to advocate for change in the Dakota Horizons Council and ultimately across the entire Girl Scout movement.March 02, 2010

Cancer support network to meet 
Help for Hope and Healing, Jamestown’s Cancer Support Network, hosts a monthly Cancer Support Group. The next group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown, enter the north door.
The speaker will be attorney Tim Ottmar, who will discuss legal concerns that may arise while dealing with cancer. Those attending can share their own experience of dealing with cancer, if they feel comfortable doing so. Participants will have time to visit with others informally if they choose to do so.
