County’s agriculture land values to increase 
The Stutsman County Commission was informed at its regular February meeting Tuesday the average value of agricultural land will go up about 14 percent for next tax year, according to Noel Johnson, chief operating officer and tax director for the county.

Tireless work for residents: Bergquist receiving award for efforts
Jerry Bergquist, Stutsman County emergency manager, was lucky to get 5 hours of sleep per day during Jamestown’s spring flood fight last year. Sometimes from 6 a.m. one day to 2 a.m. the next, Bergquist coordinated emergency efforts to keep Jamestown as dry as possible.

Off and running
The No. 5-ranked Carrington Cardinals and the No. 9-ranked Kidder County Pirates made it through the opening round of the Stutsman County boys’ basketball tournament at the Jamestown Civic Center on Thursday.
Devin Barton’s 21 points and Jackson Unruh’s 15 fueled the No. 1-seed Cardinals past Pingree-Buchan-Kensal 86-31, while 20 first-half points by Kidder County’s Wes Nicholson spurred the No. 2-seeded Pirates by Midkota 72-44.

County residents upset over proposal to gravel roads
County roads to be turned to gravel were given priority at the Stutsman County Commission meeting Tuesday.
The roads were prioritized based on what it costs the county to patch and maintain them, said Mike Zimmerman, county road superintendent.

Budget increase of 4.31 mills approved Tuesday
The Stutsman County Commission gave approval Tuesday to a 2010 budget that includes an increase of 4.31 mills during a special budget meeting. The budget will be finalized after a formal budget hearing at the commission’s October meeting.

County to consider flood insurance program
Participation in the National Flood Insurance Program is on the agenda for the Stutsman County Commission during its regular meeting on Sept. 1. If the commission agrees to participate, it will make flood insurance available to more rural residents in the county.
