Be Mine: An Applique Valentine's Shirt
After I got stole the idea for the robot Valentine shirts for my son and stepson, I knew I had to do something more girly for my stepdaughter. I decided to do a mock candy heart applique on her shirt....

The Advent Grinch
Yesterday was Christmas! It was a great day for the family, a great day of travel, and a great Christmas service at church. The sermon was fantastic - it always is in my eyes (my huz is the pastor, bu...

Letters from the past
When I realized last Friday it was the 25th anniversary of the day the Challenger blew up, it made me think of a letter I once received. Back when my husband Eric was in the U.S. Navy, he sent me ple...

This letter to the editor is hiding something
Late last month, we got the following letter. Give it a read and see if you notice anything odd. Congratulations America. In talking recently, my Dad said, Our first computer, just 20 years ago, to lo...

Strange, Almost Sensical Spam
Some very weird spam is showing up in my inbox lately. One presents itself as being from a bank, but if a bank secretary was really that bad at proofreading, he would surely be taken out and shot fort...

Letter to the editor: Road task force should travel the county’s roads
“Caution,” the new signage posted on County Road 62 south, warns those who need to travel it, of its ever-deteriorating condition. It’s horrendous, like many other Stutsman County roads.By Judy Graves , February 04, 2012
Letter to the editor: Paul is the right candidate to get America going right
Ron Paul is not only honest, consistent and unselfish but he has actual ability to reverse this horrible economic mess we find ourselves in — after all, he understands it.By Beverly Zellner , February 03, 2012
Letter to the editor: Taylor showed leadership with Minot flood aftermath
On Jan. 20, Sens. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., and John Hoeven, R-N.D., were in Minot announcing the $77 million they secured for Minot and Ward County through a federal Community Development Block Grant.By Bob Horne , February 03, 2012
Letter to the editor: Sanitation workers deserve community’s appreciation
How often as citizens of Jamestown do we take things for granted? We take our garbage out and our sanitation workers pick it up.By Ken and Jeanie Tanata, Paul and Red Emo , February 01, 2012
Letter to the editor: HHS health care decision violates First Amendment
I write concerning an alarming and serious matter that negatively and directly impacts the Catholic Church in the United States, and strikes at the fundamental right to religious liberty for all citizens of any faith. The federal government, which claims to be “of, by, and for the people,” has dealt a heavy blow to almost a quarter of those people — the Catholic population — and to the millions more who are served by the Catholic faithful.By Rev. Samuel J. Aquila , January 28, 2012
Letter to the editor:Keystone XL claims should be met with skepticism
Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Heidi Heitkamp joined Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., in calling for quick building of the Keystone XL pipeline. She is using the same arguments as Hoeven: it will create jobs, reduce our dependency on Mideast oil and carry North Dakota oil to market, reducing our dangerous truck traffic.By Joe Richardson , January 27, 2012
Letter to the editor: Republicans cut too much from federal farm programs

Letter to the editor: Hand rails at hockey arena are deeply appreciated
Thank you, thank you to whoever was involved in getting the hand rails up at the hockey arena. Now some of us can sit up at the top or any place except the first row.By Ramona Eckman , January 26, 2012
Letter to the editor: N.D. needs better laws to protect animals from cruelty
As a citizen of North Dakota, I can be sure that my fellow North Dakotans stand by me in being upset and ashamed of our state’s extremely low rankings in animal cruelty laws. North Dakota is an agricultural state where livestock and other animals play a huge part.By Alison Smith , January 25, 2012
Letter to the editor: Carry bail money if planning to speak on some properties
As a civil rights and free speech advocate I have watched with interest the efforts of Sioux nickname petitioners to get inside the Ralph Engelstad Arena at the University of North Dakota, and was sorry to see them lose their case in Grand Forks District Court.By Roland Riemers, Grand Forks , January 23, 2012
Letter to the editor: Redistricting should be done by non-political group
The legal notice of state legislative redistricting recently appeared in my local newspaper. The changes to our Districts 12 and 29 show an interesting situation.By Charles Linderman, Carrington, N.D. , January 23, 2012
Letter to the editor: Dam project near Fargo hurts those living near city
“Thou shalt not lie” is a commandment all Christians should follow. Too bad the supporters of the Diversion Authority project can’t follow this simple rule of life. There are lies, half-truths and innuendoes coming from the Diversion Authority group. They may change their name, but they still have a problem of telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Letter to the editor: Runaway oil development will deplete N.D.’s water
No water means no life. That’s pretty elementary. In short order, both the oil industry and our agriculture will be belly-up dead without water. But Gov. Jack Dalrymple, R-N.D., can’t seem to grasp that; nor does he seem to care. If we are going to benefit from this oil boom, we need new leadership.

Letter to the editor: Tebow is a fine example of an athlete with integrity
I am not a devoted Tim Tebow fan but am compelled to address the opinions expressed Friday by David Griswold of The Sun.

Letter to the editor:Don't expect Keystone XL to do much for North Dakota
Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., is leading the push for approval of the Canadian Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline’s purpose is to take Canadian tar sands crude down to refineries on the Gulf Coast in Texas. The pipeline barely, if at all, knicks North Dakota’s southwestern tip. He gives three reasons: jobs; reduction in U.S. import of oil from the Mideast and Venezuela; and 100,000 barrels of oil per day from the Bakken would be carried by the pipe.
