Bison looking for a big win

FARGO — It’s been 17 games since North Dakota State left a football field with a win that had significance in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision landscape. The Bison won’t have to wait long to correct that. They’ll have opportunities in the first two weeks of the season to register a confidence-builder, the type of victory that carries swagger in a top 25 FCS poll. NDSU opens at the University of Kansas on Sept. 4 and follows with a road trip to perennial Missouri Valley Football Conference power Northern Iowa on Sept. 11.

UND-NDSU contest in discussion PressPass

It’s much earlier than usual, but North Dakota State has completed its football schedule for 2011 with the addition of Lafayette College (Pa.). The Patriot League team will come to the Fargodome for a Sept. 3 nonconference game giving NDSU its maximum 11 games for the season. The Bison follow that with a home game against Georgia Southern two weeks later and then travel to the University of Minnesota.

The Buchanan native set record after record for the NDSU track and field team, leading the Bison to their third straight Summit League championship. North Dakota State’s Whitney Carlson has been named the Summit League Women’s Athlete of the month after setting two records in April. Carlson, a junior from Buchanan, broke the school record in the heptathlon (5,343) at the Mt. SAC/Cal Invitational Combined Events in April 15.
