Jimmies’ record season ends It did not take long for the harsh reality of postseason basketball to hit Jamestown College women’s coach Mark Wiest right in the gut. Just hours after watching his team’s record-breaking season come to an end against Iowa Wesleyan, 72-60 on Friday, Wiest was back at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa, waiting to watch Black Hills State, the lone Dakota Athletic Conference team left in the NAIA national tournament.

Jalen Finley scored 20 points and Jake Miller and Esley Thorton added 13 each as Bismarck beat Fargo South 73-56 Thursday in the opening round of the North Dakota boys Class A basketball tournament. Finley was 8-for-14 from the field for the Demons (19-4). Miller had two of the Demons’ five 3-pointers. Bismarck also out-rebounded the Bruins 41-36.

The Carrington Cardinals shocked the top-ranked team in the state. Devin Barton scored 19 points and Easton Paige chipped in 16 as the Cardinals nipped North Star 66-65 in overtime to claim the Region 4 championship and punched their ticket to the Class B boys’ state tournament in Minot.

The Jimmies blew a 13-point second half lead, but regained control just in time to advance into the Sweet 16 with a 65-58 win over Indiana-Southeast Thursday morning in Sioux City, Iowa.
