Jimmie Invite today at Hillcrest The golf season may be the most unique of any offered by the NAIA. The first half of the season, which starts today with the Jimmie Invite at Hillcrest Golf Course, is played in the fall. Once the snow melts, they eventually get around to the second half in the spring.

JHS star notches 15th career win

JHS star notches 15th career win Laura Kraft has made some good high school memories strolling the fairways at Minot Country Club. Two years ago, the Jamestown standout claimed her first state title at MCC and on Monday she made yet another memory at the Minot Invitational. Kraft went 5-under on her last 17 holes to finish with a 3-under 69 — the season’s first sub-70 round — to claim her third individual title of the year.

Woods shoots best round of the year PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) — Yes, that really was Tiger Woods’ name atop the leaderboard. In his first tournament since his divorce, Woods finally looked like the No. 1 player in the world Thursday at the Barclays when he opened with a 6-under 65, his lowest score of the year, to share the lead with Vaughn Taylor. It was his first time leading after any round on the PGA Tour since the Tour Championship last September.

PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) — Jim Furyk picked a bad time to sleep in. Furyk overslept Wednesday when his cell phone lost power overnight and the alarm didn’t go off, causing him to be late for his pro-am tee time in The Barclays. That left PGA Tour officials no choice but to make him ineligible for the first of four FedEx Cup playoff events.

Woods commits to first FedEx Cup playoff event

PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) — Tiger Woods is playing the first FedEx Cup playoff event with hopes that it’s not his last. Woods on Thursday officially entered The Barclays, which starts Aug. 26. It’s the first of four playoff events that conclude with the Tour Championship and a $10 million prize to the winner of the yearlong FedEx Cup competition.
