NHL/NBA roundup: Franzen, Zetterberg lead Red Wings

Johan Franzen scored twice, Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and two assists, and Jimmy Howard made 21 saves for Detroit. Tomas Holmstrom added a goal and an assist, and Drew Miller also scored for Detroit. Andrew Ebbett scored for Minnesota.

Ralph officials don’t expect problems

With the puck set to drop tonight in the first Sioux-Gopher men’s hockey series in Grand Forks since an altercation after a game left a fan with a serious head injury, officials at the Ralph Engelstad Arena say they aren’t anticipating problems this weekend.

NBA/NHL roundup: Wild lose in SO Cory Stillman scored the winning shootout goal and the Florida Panthers held the Minnesota Wild to a franchise-tying low 11 shots in a 3-2 win on Tuesday night. The Wild also tied a season low for shots by a home team in the NHL this season. Minnesota managed only 11 shots on Jan. 23, 2004, at Anaheim. The Wild’s previous low for shots on goal at home was 13 against Vancouver on Oct. 14, 2005.

NHL roundup: Iginla leads Flames past Wild Despite being the career leader in goals against Minnesota Wild, Jarome Iginla hadn’t scored one in 10 games. He certainly broke out of his slump in a big way. Iginla recorded his 10th career hat trick — his third against Minnesota — and Vesa Toskala made 27 saves in his first start since being traded to Calgary as the Flames beat the Wild 5-2 on Sunday. Rene Bourque and Mark Giordano also scored for the Flames, who stayed within a point of Detroit for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Pee Wee Black sweeps three games

The Jamestown-Valley City Pee Wee Black hockey team went 3-0 last weekend, opening with a 6-2 win over Mandan as Collin Schroeder had four goals in the opener. Conner Grosgebauer and Brandon Miller also scored. Gage Thompson had two assists and Sam Grugel one. Tom Grounds had 35 saves. Schroeder had four more goals, Thompson three and Grugel one in an 8-1 win over West Fargo.
