Jimmies up trip record to 6-2

The Jamestown College softball team ran into some trouble Friday after cruising through the first two days of its Tucson, Ariz. road trip 5-0. The Jimmies — following a late victory Thursday night against Robert Morris — dominated the University of Great Falls (Mont.) 9-2 in 5 innings Friday behind a strong pitching performance from Kate Street (5-0). But The Jimmies’ six-game winning streak was snapped by losses to Judson University (Ill.) and Peru State (Neb.).

Jimmies’ record season ends

Jimmies’ record season ends It did not take long for the harsh reality of postseason basketball to hit Jamestown College women’s coach Mark Wiest right in the gut. Just hours after watching his team’s record-breaking season come to an end against Iowa Wesleyan, 72-60 on Friday, Wiest was back at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa, waiting to watch Black Hills State, the lone Dakota Athletic Conference team left in the NAIA national tournament.

Jimmies get first win at nationals Wins at the national tournament shouldn’t come easy, and it did not for the Jamestown College women’s basketball team on Thursday. The Jimmies blew a 13-point second half lead, but regained control just in time to advance into the Sweet 16 with a 65-58 win over Indiana-Southeast Thursday morning in Sioux City, Iowa.

Obviously, to go 25-6 and earn a No. 2 seed for the NAIA national tournament indicates there is some talent there, but it goes deeper than that.

The underdog role has been good to the Jamestown College men’s basketball team in recent weeks. When they open the national tournament tonight in Point Lookout, Mo., they’ll again assume that position against defending NAIA champion Oklahoma Wesleyan.

Jimmies split doubleheader

Jamestown College rallied late in the opener and St. Francis (Ill.) turned the tables in Game 2 as they split a twinbill on Tuesday in Ormond Beach, Fla. Tied 3-all into the bottom of the seventh in Game 1, the Jimmies got a game-winning single from Jeremy Newman to win 4-3. They led 6-5 after 4 1/2 innings in the nightcap, but St. Francis exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth to end it early 16-6 and get the split.

Jimmies split in sunny Florida

The Jimmies were on both ends of a pair of blowouts on Monday as they continued their spring trip in Florida. Phil Curtis fired six strong innings in the opener and the Jimmies pounded out 14 hits in an 11-1 win over St. Francis (Ind.) on a sunny, 70-degree day in the Sunshine State.
