Jamesriver skaters collect 13 firsts 
Nine Jamesriver figure skaters brought home 13 first-place medals at the Leap and Compete Basic Competition in Wahpeton on Feb. 27.
The event was a basic competition for skaters of all levels from beginners (first year) to low competitive levels.

Sure, the economy and health care reform hurt Martha Coakley in Massachusetts. But in her Senate campaign’s crucial last week, the Democratic candidate made a bad situation worse. Coakley angered Catholics, Red Sox fans and independent voters with her slips of the tongue; and after you’ve turned off those three groups in Massachusetts, you don’t have many people left.

Ten miles of double track cross country ski trails are groomed and can be accessed.
Hours are noon-5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Cost of ski rental is $5. The Hillcrest Golf Course Proshop will be open for warming house with concessions.

Hillcrest Golf Course will be open for cross country skiing this weekend.
Hours are Noon-5:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ski rentals are available at the pro shop and cost is $5. Concessions will also be available at the pro shop.

Counting down fantasy football 
It may seem like a mediocre week by NFL standards with the NFC North clinched for the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers likely rolling to a wild card spot.
But this is the time of year where fantasy football championships are won or lost. And, the difference between hoisting the fantasy trophy or being the butt of jokes can come down to as little as a first down or a field goal.

Cody Lange placed first in the 50 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle in the 8-and-under division to lead the Jamestown Jaws swim team in West Fargo Dec. 13.

Selvig named new sports editor at Sun 
Dave Selvig has been named the new sports editor at the Jamestown Sun.
Selvig replaces Scott Throlson, who had been at The Sun for 15 years, including the last 10 as the sports editor.
Selvig has been with The Sun for 10 years, covering Class B sports for three years and Jamestown High School athletics since 2003. He’ll now primarily cover Jamestown College athletics.

Walking track open for public use 
The walking track at the Jamestown High School will be open for use by the general public beginning on Monday, Nov. 30.
The track will be open from 6-8 a.m. Monday through Friday. Patrons are asked to park in the front parking lot of the high school and access the waking track via the main school entrance and walking through the commons area.

SDHSAA considering adding high school soccer 
A study committee has removed a proposed implementation date in a revised report on adding soccer as a sanctioned high school sport for boys and girls.
The South Dakota High School Activities Association’s board of directors will give the report a first reading in January.
