Snail Mail: Send A Little Love
The summer before my sophomore year of high school, my family and I moved from northern New Jersey, to Indiana. Even though I grew up moving a lot, this was the first move that was really hard on me....

DIY Fabric Animal Decor
Our second bathroom is the kid's bathroom. When I first moved in to our house, the room had been painted a teal and dark pink color to match the fish-designed shower curtain. Personally, the color com...

The Advent Grinch
Yesterday was Christmas! It was a great day for the family, a great day of travel, and a great Christmas service at church. The sermon was fantastic - it always is in my eyes (my huz is the pastor, bu...

Letters from the past
When I realized last Friday it was the 25th anniversary of the day the Challenger blew up, it made me think of a letter I once received. Back when my husband Eric was in the U.S. Navy, he sent me ple...

Strange, Almost Sensical Spam
Some very weird spam is showing up in my inbox lately. One presents itself as being from a bank, but if a bank secretary was really that bad at proofreading, he would surely be taken out and shot fort...

Letter to the editor: Session hampered by questionable priorities
Senate Majority Leader Rich Wardner, R-Dickinson, and House Majority Leader Al Carlson, R-Fargo, recently boasted that they “got the job done for the citizens.” If that’s the definition of getting the job done, we fully expect the people of North Dakota to decide someone else should do the job. Too often, tremendous opportunities were squandered by an overly-ideological GOP majority with seriously misplaced priorities.By By Mac Schneider, Grand Forks, and Kenton Onstad, Parshall, N.D. , May 22, 2013
Letter to the editor: North Dakota leaders right to launch anti-abortion fight
What a difference God can make in two years. It is a wonderful thing to see the Lord Jesus Christ work out his plan through our own North Dakota Legislature.By By Robert Tatum, Ellendale , May 17, 2013
Letter to the editor: Sort items properly at the recycling center
I’m not sure that everyone realizes the wonderful resource Jamestown has in its recycling center. Tons of materials go through there that would otherwise go into the landfill but instead go on to be reused in metal and paper products. The center also takes clean and useable clothing and shoes that go for good causes.By By Roberta J. Anderson, Jamestown , May 15, 2013
Letter to the editor: Story implied Christians don’t welcome all people
We are responding to the May 10 article, “Church’s ‘open’ view draws interest” which speaks of congregations that are “open and affirming” of those who engage in same-sex behavior. Sadly, this article also implies that Christians who believe that same-sex behavior is sinful are not willing to welcome or love people who struggle with this sin.By By the Rev. Tom Eckstein, the Rev. Shawn Bowman and the Rev. Frank Cherney, all Jamestown , May 14, 2013
Letter to the editor: School Board members need to explain their votes
I am writing in response to the action of the Jamestown Public School Board in not hiring Jeff Nold. Why do you have committees? Nold was the best candidate according to the committee.By By Jeanie Tanata, Jamestown , May 11, 2013
Letter to the editor: All gun sales should require getting a background check
I was surprised the universal background check bill did not pass the Senate as it would help to reduce gun violence, and, if passed, would be the foundation for further legislation. I support this bill.By By Hazel L. Scott, Jamestown , May 08, 2013
Letter to the editor: School Board members need to change their ways
As a former Jamestown Public School Board member, I have tried to remain quiet about the actions of a number of our current School Board members. I know it is not an easy job trying to balance the needs of students, staff and taxpayers. It takes a lot of effort if you are going to be successful and do the job right.By Ken Astrup, Jamestown , May 06, 2013
Correction
Steve Bennion of Jamestown said he erred in his letter to the editor which appeared in Tuesday’s Sun regarding the Jamestown Public School Board’s decision not to hire Jeff Nold. One of the four hiring committee members does report to Bill Nold; Bennion had written that none do.May 04, 2013
Letter to the editor: School Board was wrong not to hire applicant
I feel strongly the necessity to voice my dismay at the Jamestown Public School Board for denying the hire of a teacher/coach based on family relationship to a present employee in the school system.By By Patti Peterson, Jamestown , May 04, 2013
Letter to the editor: Times have changed and new gun laws are needed
The Sun ran an ad in the April 24 edition on page A9, paid for by the Progressive Change Committee, which included my name. I have gotten two telephone calls at my home asking me about what PCC means to say in this ad. I would like to clarify for the community what I mean by putting my name on it.By By David deSousa, Jamestown , May 03, 2013
Letter to the editor: School Board dives deeper into its own dysfunction
The Jamestown School District’s School Board was found to be dysfunctional by the regional school accreditation association this past winter. That is unfortunate for our schools as strong leadership is important to moving our schools forward for young people.By By Dave Smette, Jamestown , May 02, 2013
Letter to the editor: Media supported candidates they are now criticizing
I’ve enjoyed reading the editorial boards of the major North Dakota newspapers, owned mostly by Forum Communications, rail against the irresponsible actions taken by the Republican supermajority in the 63rd legislative session. What I find interesting, however, is the lack of transparency from these same editorial boards about the fact that they endorsed every one of these candidates. Every. Single. One.By By Mitch Axness, Fargo , May 01, 2013
Letter to the editor: Nold caught in crossfire of dysfunctioning School Board
The Jamestown Public School Board members who voted to refuse the hiring of Jeff Nold have sent an arrogant message to every staff member of our public school system. They have refused to hire an experienced teacher who has already been a state championship coach simply because of who his father is.By By Steve Bennion, Jamestown , May 01, 2013
Letter to the editor: Remember those who lost their lives on the job
Working people have come together year after year to call for better working conditions and stronger safety protections on the job. As a result, workplace deaths and injuries have declined significantly, exposure to hazards and toxic chemicals like asbestos and lead have been reduced and far fewer workers are dying from trench cave-ins or from being caught in dangerous machinery.By By Dan Jackson, Oakes, N.D. , May 01, 2013
Letter to the editor: Eventide deserves praise, thanks for ‘fun’ raiser
This past Friday my husband David and I attended the first “fun”raiser for Eventide at Hi-Acres. Since I had been a resident there, and received wonderful care, I wanted to support them.By By Bonnie H. Rogers, Jamestown , April 24, 2013
