FARGO (AP) — Gas prices in the Dakotas are poised to reach all-time highs.
AAA North Dakota officials say the statewide average record of $4.08 a gallon is likely to be broken in the next couple of days.
Gasoline prices are on the rise and headed to a record in North Dakota.
The average price of gas in the state could reach $4.15 per gallon in the coming days, breaking the July 2008 record of $4.08, according to North Dakota AAA spokesman Gene LaDoucer.
President Barack Obama's choice to lead the Energy Department pledged to increase use of natural gas Tuesday as a way to combat climate change even as the nation seeks to boost domestic energy production.
State data show the amount of natural gas that was burned off as a byproduct of oil production is dropping as crude production rises.
State Department of Mineral Resources statistics show natural gas production in October was at record levels, at more than 796,000 million cubic feet daily.
