What Does It Take to Be an Expert?
I have no letters after my name. Okay, officially I have a B.A., which in today's climate stands less for Bachelor of Arts as it does for Buy Additional -- credits, tuition, college time -- leading t...

DIY Fabric Animal Decor
Our second bathroom is the kid's bathroom. When I first moved in to our house, the room had been painted a teal and dark pink color to match the fish-designed shower curtain. Personally, the color com...

The Advent Grinch
Yesterday was Christmas! It was a great day for the family, a great day of travel, and a great Christmas service at church. The sermon was fantastic - it always is in my eyes (my huz is the pastor, bu...

Letters from the past
When I realized last Friday it was the 25th anniversary of the day the Challenger blew up, it made me think of a letter I once received. Back when my husband Eric was in the U.S. Navy, he sent me ple...

This letter to the editor is hiding something
Late last month, we got the following letter. Give it a read and see if you notice anything odd. Congratulations America. In talking recently, my Dad said, Our first computer, just 20 years ago, to lo...

Letter to the editor: Farmers need strong crop insurance, disaster programs
North Dakota relies on agriculture to maintain a thriving economy. Our state is the No. 1 producer of 14 different agricultural commodities in the nation and employs one in every five North Dakotans in the agricultural field. It is clear that a healthy bottom line for North Dakota is directly tied to agriculture.By Elwood “Woody” Barth, Flasher, N.D. , May 14, 2012
Letter to the editor: Functions of governments separated for good reasons
I have been a Divide County commissioner for the last 30 years, and currently serve as president of the North Dakota County Commissioners Association. I’d like to share some thoughts and feelings that I have about Measure 2.By Doug Graupe , May 12, 2012
Letter to the editor: AARP wants to chat about Social Security, Medicare
I recently retired after working for 40 years in the field of aging in North Dakota. Now, as volunteer state president for AARP North Dakota, I am concerned that an important voice has been missing from the political debate over the future of Social Security and Medicare — yours.By Rodger Wetzel , May 11, 2012
Letter to the editor: Businesses that don’t keep promises should lose aid
At the Jamestown chamber’s City Council candidate forum, the chamber chose not to use my submitted question, along with the background information provided, of “Are you willing to investigate and reconsider a tax exemption previously granted?”By Clarice Liechty , May 11, 2012
Letter to the editor: Get out and travel the state during this summer season
The summer travel season is right around the corner. In fact, May 5-13 is National Travel and Tourism Week, which officially kicks off the summer travel season. It’s also a time for us to celebrate our state’s robust tourism industry and our unique things to see and do that attract people from all over. Tourism is the state’s third-largest industry and benefits the economies of all 53 counties.By Sara Otte Coleman , May 11, 2012
Letter to the editor: Obama has earned a failing grade for his leadership
Students are evaluated on performance. I shall likewise evaluate President Barack Obama with a failing grade in his leadership. He does not listen or care what the citizens say. He lacks common sense and spends tax dollars like they grow on trees.

Letter to the editor: It’s time to send Kalk to Washington to serve N.D.
I was particularly pleased Brian Kalk received the nomination from North Dakota Republicans at this year’s convention. I have always felt he has been at the forefront of protecting North Dakota interests as part of the Public Service Commission, and I am very excited by the notion of sending him to Washington, D.C., to help sort out the mess there. I know he has a June primary fight ahead, but I am confident Kalk will be the clear winner once again.

Letter to the editor: Civic Center does service by bringing ‘Called’ tour here
I would like to commend the Jamestown Civic Center staff for working so hard to bring a good quality, family-friendly concert to town. The “Called to Love” tour with Aaron Shust, Down Hear and Jason Gray will be performing on Tuesday at the Civic Center.

Letter to the editor: Water has been major factor with roads, not ‘control’
In response to Clarice Liechty’s letter to the editor printed April 25:
I have served as clerk for our township for 15 years. In those years our board has done a very good job of taking care of our roads. Our road conditions in our township are because of high water issues. Our board had kept up our roads for years and certainly did not neglect them. The last few years we didn’t have the money to fix all these roads that are currently closed due to our water issues. We have had to prioritize roads and believe me, they have not been easy decisions for the people who sit on our board.

Letter to the editor: Time to get serious about reducing government
Farmers and others rightfully criticize the Environmental Protection Agency about ridiculous regulations enforced or threatened concerning “navigable waterways” (often puddles in fields) and dust raised by trucks or equipment.

Letter to the editor: Story doesn’t distinguish between sin and acting on it
I’m responding to the article in The Jamestown Sun on April 27 titled “Exhibit features stoles of those unable to minister due to sexual orientation.”

Letter to the editor: Measure 2 is not the way to lower property taxes
Measure 2, which would eliminate property taxes, will harm our schools and our state finances. Voters need to think long and hard about the consequences to our state and to our schools if Measure 2 were to pass. I am strongly opposed to the passage of Measure 2 for the following reasons.

Letter to the editor: Measure 2 would not be up for change after seven years
I keep hearing that if the citizens of North Dakota pass Measure 2, it will “lock it in the Constitution with no changes for seven years.” Could someone tell me where in the state Constitution or set of state statutes that say it’s locked in for seven years?

Letter to the editor: BCTF goes too far with its control over Frontier Village
“I don’t think that they have shown enough responsibility, I don’t think that they’ve really provided the things that give me confidence,” Pam Phillips said, according to The Jamestown Sun. I as a board member of the Frontier Village and a volunteer in the Frontier Village Player’s take real issue with that statement. The Frontier Village Board has submitted all information that the Buffalo City Tourism Foundation has requested in a timely manner.

Letter to the editor: Shame on those who did not attend ROV fundraiser
A lot of time and hard work went into a fundraiser that was held at the Civic Center on April 21.
Volunteers worked hard to raise money for a remote operated vehicle in honor of Darrin Ackerman.
