Good time to be a Jimmie

Each spring, the Dakota Athletic Conference awards one of its schools with the Commissioner’s Cup. I’m not certain of how the award is tabulated, or what the exact criteria for winning it is, but the gist of it is that it goes to the school that had the best overall season in athletics. Last year it was Dickinson State. The year before Black Hills State and so on. This year, it better be coming to Lawrie Paulson’s athletic department at Jamestown College.

Most JHS events postponed on Friday

A busy Friday of Jamestown High School sporting events was mostly wiped out by another round of snow and blow. All but one of the six events originally scheduled were either postponed or delayed. Only the Blue Jay wrestling team was in action on Friday at the two-day Bismarck Rotary Tournament.

Oakland’s Chavez faces season-ending surgery

Oakland Athletics third baseman Eric Chavez will have surgery to repair fraying of the labrum in his right shoulder next week, ending his season after he played in just 23 games. Assistant general manager David Forst said Chavez elected to have surgery now, rather than after the season, to increase his chances of being healthy in time for spring training.
