Letter to the editor: Group is using the Bible as a vicious, political weapon
I have read a lot lately about the biblical evidence that the religious right is using to support, confirm, justify and enable their bigotry and homophobic hysteria, and I’ve read some great responses about leaving that judgment up to God. I think the most hideous thing in all of this is how the private personal lives of an entire group of people are being put on trial right here on this opinion page by another group of self-righteous hypocrites who insist on using the Bible as a vicious political weapon.By Brad Mills , February 20, 2010
Letter to the editor: The Bible is clear: God alone shall render judgement
We write in response to Cindy Hinz’s letter, “God gave free will but also moral rules to live by.” The Bible also makes it clear that God reserves the right of moral judgment and condemnation for himself. While the Bible does give a set of moral precepts, it also says, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone” (John 8:7). It also says, “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again” (Matthew 7:1-2).By Sean Flory and Ilana Xinos , February 15, 2010
