Financial reform bill passes
WASHINGTON — Congress on Thursday passed the stiffest restrictions on banks and Wall Street since the Great Depression, clamping down on lending practices and expanding consumer protections to prevent a repeat of the 2008 meltdown that knocked the economy to its knees. It now goes to the White House for President Barack Obama’s signature, expected as early as Wednesday.By By Jim Kuhnhenn, The Associated Press , July 16, 2010

Letter to the editor: Critics should take a new attitude on health reform
Too darn many people seem to want the health care bill to fail. It is the law of the land. Instead of endlessly criticizing it, they should take what could be called the Pearl Harbor attitude. Get to build the armed forces to defeat the enemy. What would happen if they took the same resolve to make the health care plan work? The critics should consider that instead of trying to sabotage it from the beginning.By Ernest Hubacker , April 19, 2010

Letter to the editor: Consider how health care bill will affect state workers
One of the largest employers in the State of North Dakota is the state government itself. State employees currently enjoy one of the best health insurance policies in the nation. During the health care debate these types of plans were called Cadillac plans. The federal plan passed by the U.S. House and signed into law Tuesday will have a large impact on the insurance plan the State of North Dakota provides its employees.By Steve Collins , March 24, 2010
Letter to the editor: Abortion not included as covered expense in bill
Opponents to health care reform have been raising fears that the Senate health care reform bill will increase the number of abortions. This is a deeply flawed argument that is inaccurate on two important counts.By Patti Sele , March 23, 2010
