Romney’s book gives him head start in 2012 GOP race
Given the Republican Party’s tendency to pick “the next guy in line” as its presidential nominee, it’s no accident that the front-runners for the 2012 nomination are familiar faces from 2008 — former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.By Morton Kondracke, Roll Call , March 23, 2010

Letter to the editor: Cramer seems to be less interested in doing PSC job
All of the erratic statements coming from Kevin Cramer are starting to make me dizzy. First, he said he wasn’t going to run for the U.S. House because he didn’t really want to be a member of Congress, and because running a political campaign would distract him from the energy issues he deals with at the Public Service Commission. Then, he changed his mind and announced he wanted to be a member of Congress after all.By Billie Diver , February 10, 2010

United Way held the kickoff for its 2009 campaign called “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand” in September. Its goal this year is $205,000 — a $5,000 increase from its $200,000 goal in 2008. The deadline for donations was Dec. 31.February 09, 2010

Letter to the editor: Get back to the basics on campaign finance reform
The recent Supreme Court decision giving corporations free rein to monetarily influence elections highlights a problem our country has kicked around for decades without ever connecting the right dots. The simplest campaign finance reform would create a direct link between the right to donate and the right to vote. When will anyone stand up and say that?By Mary A. Conrad , January 27, 2010

Salvation Army campaign expected to surpass goal
Every morning from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve, Willie Kamletz, 87, and sometimes his wife Geneva Kamletz, 94, could be found inside County Market, ringing a bell for the Salvation Army. “I had a ball, a lot of fun doing it, and by golly it’s better than sitting around the house doing nothing,” Willie Kamletz said.By Ben Rodgers , December 29, 2009
What we think: Contribute to the United Way campaign
Many charities need help in Jamestown this holiday season. Instead of picking just one or two to donate to, help the United Way so it can spread that help as far as possible. The United Way donates to 21 area organizations ranging from the James River Humane Society to the Arts After School program. All of the groups United Way helps are groups that improve life in Jamestown for people of all ages throughout the year.By Sun Staff , December 11, 2009
