Alltel Wireless subscribers in portions of North Dakota, including Jamestown, will continue to receive Alltel’s service as North Dakota was not included in the company’s recent sale to Verizon Wireless.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says North Dakota is among seven states that have sued to block the merger of Verizon Wireless and Alltel Corp. in a $28 billion deal that would create the nation’s largest wireless carrier.
People in far southwestern North Dakota say they are in a black hole where cell phones don’t work, and they worry about getting help for oil field accidents or other emergencies.
More than 100 people came to a meeting Tuesday organized by Rhame Mayor Trace Wiffler to discuss the lack of cell phone coverage with the Public Service Commission.
