Officials are investigating what caused part of a Valley City company’s roof to collapse.
Dietrich Bus Service spokesman Don Enger said three school buses were in the back half of the maintenance building when the roof collapsed Wednesday but there were no people inside. There was no immediate damage estimate.
A storm dumped several inches of snow on eastern North Dakota on Wednesday.
Contractor Meinecke-Johnson’s bid for Minard Hall work was $1 million lower than its competitors, which raised eyebrows among North Dakota State University officials and the other contractors.
Meinecke-Johnson bid $8.2 million for general construction, while Gast Construction and Comstock Construction each bid nearly $9.3 million.

Part of a historic building on the North Dakota State campus collapsed Sunday amid an ongoing expansion project.
A large section of the north side of Minard Hall gave way between midnight and 3 a.m., leaving a gaping hole in the century-old building.
Lisbon officials expect lawsuits over the collapse of a downtown walking bridge in September.
The collapse injured five construction workers who were taking a break on the wooden bridge, which was suspended over the Sheyenne River. Officials said the five had been working on a paving job nearby and no work was being done on the bridge at the time.

The concrete building collapsed during late morning-classes Friday, killing 47 people and injuring many more. Rescuers used bare hands to pull bleeding students from the wreckage.
