Letter to the editor: A quiet zone would make Jamestown a better place
Since I am only 8 years old, I didn’t get to vote on the quiet zone measure. I definitely would have voted for it. I was very sad to hear that it didn’t pass. I think the reason people didn’t vote for it was because they thought the taxes would be too high. But even I could afford it just with the money I make from shoveling the driveway!By Anavah Love Cole , December 19, 2008

Letter to the editor: Jamestown needs other things than a quiet zone
Dwaine Heinrich is right, these aren’t our fathers’ train whistles. However, these aren’t our fathers’ cars or drivers either. Vehicles have distracting stereos, cell phones, texting, TV screens, iPods, satellite radios and GPS systems. Drivers pay much less attention to the surrounding environment than they do their gadgets.By David Klein , December 03, 2008

Zone input
Jamestown’s Renaissance Zone is about halfway through its 15-year cycle, with 21 projects either completed or nearing completion, and is now ready for some revitalization of its own. The zone of 20 contiguous blocks, most of it downtown, was established for property revitalization in 2000. Although the Legislature has tweaked the program in every session since enactment of the Renaissance Zone Act in 1999, City Administrator Jeff Fuchs said people still think getting a zone project approved is a long and cumbersome business. It’s not. Along with the Legislature, the city has been doing some streamlining of its own through the years.October 15, 2008

Letter to the editor: Some people helpful but others are not
Sometimes when I go downtown in my wheelchair I get harassed by high school students. They have the courage to say things from a passing car but they haven’t got the courage to say things to my face. I could get in trouble for saying this. I used to tell the authorities, but now I just take matters into my own hand. If I get in trouble, so be it.By Dennis Schneider, Jamestown , September 24, 2008
